2008 Ford Escape: Hitting Online Market Like a Storm

Sunday, August 22nd, 2010

Like experts are saying, the best form of promotion is viral marketing. The latter employs effective marketing techniques using pre-existing social networks to generate exponential growth in brand awareness. And viral marketing is currently the latest ace of the 2008 Ford Escape.

What do online purchasers say about the new Escape? “A winner all the way around!” One enthusiast quipped: “It is great to be sitting at a light with no engine noise or vibration, allowing you to listen to the great sound system.” Another one uttered, “The build quality is flawless.” An aficionado noted, “Do yourself a favor and give one a drive.”

Doing the Ford Escape a great favor

Indeed, viral marketing is doing Ford a great favor. With an overwhelming response from online purchasers, and consumers spreading the positive news all over the Net, there is nothing more Ford could ask for but linger in euphoria.

Viral promotion may take different forms like interactive Flash games, hilarious video clips, advergames, images, or even SMS text messages. But Ford’s promotion form performs like an Airaid. auto part using ‘word of mouth’ commendation from jubilant consumers.

In the eighth installment in a series highlighting online consumer reviews of Ford Motor Company’s new products, verbatim comments on the 2008 Ford Escape were posted on Yahoo! Autos (www.autos.yahoo.com) and Edmunds (www.edmunds.com). Earlier, the Yahoo! homepage (www.yahoo.com) featured a 2008 Ford Escape advertising “takeover” resulting in more than 500,000 “click-throughs” to the Escape launch Web site – www.boredomhurts.com. This initiative has been one of Ford’s most successful ever in terms of winning over customers.

According to the J.D. Power and Associates 2006 New Autoshopper.com Study SM, 77 percent of new vehicle buyers consult independent online resources during their search for a new vehicle.

What they say…

A feedback from Keith of Baton Rouge was posted at Yahoo! Autos. Keith has this to say about the vehicle: “I just recently test drove the new Escape, and I think it is much better than the model it replaces. First, the styling is much improved. It has more definition, more character. The seating position is first rate, and all of the controls are easy to find and use. It rides firmly, yet comfortably, and the handling is much improved over the old model. The V-6 ought to be standard equipment on all models; the trade-off between power and economy is very good. What’s more, the price is right, and everything suggests that the Escape will be a great value for the money. The new Escape is now at the top of my new-car shopping list, and I hope Ford can improve all its models the way they improved this one.”

Richard, also an online purchaser, said “This is the first new Ford I purchased in 29 years. I traded in a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee. In fact the last five new SUVs I purchased were Jeep Grand Cherokees. After two years of driving the 2005 Jeep I had enough of the poor service and lack of concern by Jeep.”

He added, “I was hesitant to purchase and did quite a bit of research before doing so and glad I did. The Escape Hybrid is fun to drive, has better visibility, and the gas mileage is twice that of the Jeep! We did drive the Toyota Highlander Hybrid and the bottom line was about the same but I am tall enough that when getting in and out of the Toyota I scraped my head. This is not the case with the Ford. Also, GM has nothing to offer in hybrids.” The testimony was posted at Edmunds.com.

How impressive could Escape get?

Clay from Vallejo, Calif. said, “Hats off to the ‘08 Escape Hybrid! I had an ‘06 Escape Hybrid 4WD (not loaded) and for $1,500 more I now have a loaded ‘08 Escape Hybrid 4WD. The reason is starting with the ‘07 hybrids, Ford lowered the price. The exterior has a new aggressive look and even makes it appear larger. The new interior design is a plus. I noticed that the cabin is quieter and feels more solid on the road than my ‘06. The new EPA sticker shows a more ‘real world’ estimate because right off I was doing 29 mpg and over on the first tank. It comes standard with dual climate, which is great because my wife is always colder, and an auxiliary jack for the iPod/MP3 addicts, two 12V power points for front and rear users, auto on/off headlamps and tire pressure sensors. The center stack has totally improved: larger touch screen GPS, six CD/MP3 in-dash instead of the changer under the passenger seat, and a high mount info screen (time, date, exterior and interior temperature, bearing).”

“The console is VERY sly! It can hide a 14-inch laptop and power it as well, thanks to the 110V plug right there in the front of the shifter. The center console attachments can be configured in a number of ways for convenience. It’s one of those things you have to see for yourself! This hybrid is one to consider over the pricier Toyota and Lexus,” Clay stressed.

Dramatic changes

“We have a XLT 4WD and what a dramatic difference from the older versions…especially the interior…thank goodness. This new version is so much better in my opinion. Dramatically quieter and more comfortable and the prices are actually lower than last year’s model. We have some very steep hills in our area with gravel roads. The all wheel drive handles them with ease without any loss of traction. The transmission does all the braking on the way downhill with little effort, saving my brakes the wear and tear. Love this CUV!” said Rob to Edmunds.com.

Yahoo! Autos posted Yogidog’s comment. He said, “I first test drove the Limited V-6 today and plan to buy one. Initial impression is that the overall look is well sculpted and smartly organized, with a sexy black leather interior. Ride is quiet, although a little rough on bad roads. I don’t particularly like a mushy ride, so the feel of the road appeals to me. Seats are comfortable and will serve well on a long ride, as will the Audiophile speaker sound system, tuned to SIRIUS. Quality of interior is immediately noticeable. The only down side is the pebble grain dashboard and need to remove headrests from back seats in order to lay seats flat, although a compartment for storing headrests is provided. Chrome front grille looks a little cheesy. My preference is for a solid color grille. Clean and simple. List of safety features and new extended 60,000 mile warranty is impressive and should coax many buyers that it’s time to come back to Ford. Bottom line … it looks good and is fun to drive. Sold.”

What about the taxes?

Frank from San Diego said, “After buying this SUV, I got all the money back I paid in federal taxes for the entire year. It is the best hybrid on the road and is great for off-roading. I have the four wheel drive model and I use it every weekend. I have 20,000 very trouble free miles on it in only 4 months. This is the best SUV Ford has ever made and there is NO comparison to the Toyota Highlander. This wins hands down!” His comment was posted at Yahoo! Autos.

Ford Escape Hybrid Extended Review

Handling and Performance

With a weight of 300 lbs the Ford Escape Hybrid’s handling is able to take-on sharp and lengthy bends. This enhances the maneuverability when considering other SUVs that are less size and by this it lessens the amount of agility while taking a turn or bend. Without stability control, and considering that the brakes are stubbornly rigid at certain times the car needs to be well-handled.

In terms of performance the Ford Escape Hybrid, equipped with an electric motor that pushes out 94hp and an I-4 fuel engine that produces 133hp results in a very powerful vehicle. Considering that Ford’s preference of engines in its Escape all-fuel models is the usual V6 motor which outputs 200hp the Ford Escape Hybrid can be relatively compared.

On the electric motor the SUV can attain speeds of around 39mph and 40mph could be achieved on the fuel engine – and ultimately the changeover between fuel and electric is a convenient feature incorporated on-the-go for when this feature is required while driving. The Ford Escape Hybrid accommodates a top speed of around 102mph, and thus the fuel engine kicks in once the temperature reaches under 50° F to better performance.

With an engine capacity of 2.3-liters the Ford Escape Hybrid and avoiding the predominant use of the Otto cycle method it runs basically on the immensely different Atkinson cycle – ultimately increasing efficiency and performance with less air and gasoline if need be.

Incorporated into the Ford Escape Hybrid is a feature called CVT, which stands for continuously variable transmission, however with a more complex electronic design and this regulates power-requirements between the various engines. This enables the engines to switch off in-turn to accommodate the use of the required motor only.

Environmental Impacts and Fuel Mileage

With the Ford Escape Hybrid as the most cost-efficient SUV boasted by Ford Motor, it would raise phenomenal interest from car buyers particular when keeping in mind the soaring prices of fuel. The idea Ford Motor introduced is a step ahead, proving that even for a car of its magnitude the Ford Escape Hybrid is an economic and dynamic vehicle.

This SUV’s front-drive model can attain a height of 30mpg in terms of fuel-efficiency. The four-wheel drive model produces 27mpg on highway driving and 29mpg in the cities.

The Ford Escape Hybrid has managed to meet the regulations placed by Super Ultra Low Emission Vehicle, a Californian company – as well as the Partial Zero Emissions Vehicle – noting with this that the vehicle out-performs its hybrid rivalries. With an emission-rate of ninety-percent less, the tailpipe of the Ford Escape Hybrid also outperforms the new car and near zero evaporative vehicles.

Ford expects to develop a successor of the Ford Escape Hybrid, or at least a prototype for now that would use ethanol to undertake most of the vehicles performance. This creates way for future models of the fuel-efficient SUV with even better environmentally-friendly models.

Other Features

Looking at the Toyota Prius and Ford Escape Hybrid on a comparative scale there are much similarities, even though announced by either companies that they were strict not to intervene on each other’s patents respectively. This lead to an agreement by both companies – whereby patent-sharing was to be permitted within both parties, and this would be the eventual usability of Ford’s diesel and direct-injection features and Toyota’s fuel-efficiency methods in either vehicle.

The battery, developed by the Sanyo Electric Company along with Honda, consists of a two-hundred and fifty cell with nickel-metal hydride. The battery pack supplied with every Ford Escape Hybrid weighs around 50kg.

The safety features include anti-lock brakes, airbags located on the front seat’s sides and of course full-length curtain airbags. The airbag’s rollover sensors come standard and the Ford Escape Hybrid SUV incorporates the Personal Safety System with sensors that detect the neediness for airbag release. These sensors are intelligently placed on various criteria involving seat-positioning, safety-belts and crash intensity.

The Ford Escape Hybrid acquired a four out of five star rating in the NHTSA crash test on front-side impact. The rear of the vehicle along with the front-seats managed five out of five stars. Rated by the IIHS the vehicle maintained ‘good’ at side-impact crashes and ‘acceptable’ for the vehicle’s frontal.

The Ford Escape Hybrid can be purchased in two different models, the front-wheel drive – priced between $26500 and $27000 incorporating a $3000 tax claim, and the four-wheel drive at $28000 with a $2200 tax claim. Car buyers find this to be an interesting ratio especially considering your average conventional fuel cars.

Car buyers may review the warranties provided before purchasing to note that the Ford Escape Hybrid includes 3-year bumper-to-bumper coverage. This is also met by a mileage cover of 36000 miles and an incorporated warranty to the drive train of 60000 miles or five years. A five-year warranty is also implemented for corrosion safety apart from mileage.

Being one of Ford’s bestsellers, the Ford Escape Hybrid had been hugely produced in 2004 as opposed to originally-proposed figures. Even with rise of sales car slumps shortly after, the Ford Escape Hybrid maintained a sturdy seller on the market, making it one of the most admiringly anticipated SUVs.

Which small SUV is the most comfortable for tall people? (Ford Escape, Honda CR-V, Toyota Rav4?)?

Saturday, August 7th, 2010

I’m a tall guy at around 6′5″ and I’m in the market for a small SUV as cars just aren’t comfortable enough for me. Even bigger cars including family sedans kill my back the way you have to slouch and sit so low and “crawl” down into them. Fellow giants will know what I’m talking about. Anyway, which small SUV has the most leg room?

I say small SUV because gas mileage is a huge concern for me. My options are the Ford Escape, Honda CR-V or Toyota Rav4. I’d really like to know which one is the most comfortable to drive on a daily basis and long trips. No hybrids please.

Newer Toyota Rav4 vs. Ford Escape Hybrid? Which is the better small SUV?

Saturday, July 17th, 2010

I’m speaking of the newer automatic 2WD 4 cylinder Rav4’s (‘05 and up) and the 4 cylinder 2WD automatic Ford Escape hybrid. Does the Escape hybrid have as good of a reputation as the Rav4? What are the pros and cons of each model? They say the Escape hybrid gets 30 MPG, but doesn’t the 4-banger Rav4 get 27-28? Which small SUV would give me the most bang for the buck in the long run and gas mileage wise?

Whats better the ford escape hybrid or the toyota highlander (the 09 models)?

Friday, July 16th, 2010

Were thinking of purchasing one, which one would be best overall. We want good performance, great mpg, lots of miles under 30k. If any know about upcoming toyota suv hybrids coming out this month please tell also.

thanks

Ford Escape for 2008

Thursday, June 17th, 2010

A couple of weeks before the Los Angeles Auto Show, some car fanatics have been able to spot the newly revamped Ford Escape which was made ready for the 2008 model year. Although they were able to see some changes to this popular sport utility vehicle, those witnesses were able to say that the Ford Escape really did not go through a major and complete redesign. But they were able to distinguish that the vehicle did receive some changes for its front end.

Some of the biggest changes that were noted were the headlights that looked larger plus a grille that now held three bars. For other changes, the witnesses did mention that the lower end also got some slight changes as well as the arches of the front wheels. As per most of the vehicle’s Ford auto parts, it looks like it was left untouched.

Now at the LA Auto Show, show goers were able to witness the complete changes done to the Ford Escape. Being the best selling compact sport utility vehicle not only in the Ford range but in the whole of the auto market, people were able to enjoy the changes done to the vehicle. Sure enough, Ford made sure that the vehicle would be able to closely contend with other competition like strong vehicles like the Toyota RAV4 as well as the Honda CR-V.

Both the exterior and the exterior of the 2008 Ford Escape got some changes. In fact, the electric power steering that the vehicle now holds is actually new. However, if you are thinking that the power of the vehicle also did get some additional bonuses, you would be disappointed to know that the underpinnings of the vehicle like the engine and suspension systems were not touched by the changes. This vehicle still comes with two engine choices – the four cylinder engine with 153 horsepower and the 3.0 liter V6 engine for 200 horsepower.

To those who are looking for changes to the 2008 Ford Escape hybrid version, then despair not. The new hybrid also did get some refreshing changes and was also sent out at the mentioned auto show the same time as the new version of the normal unit.
