Schaumburg Camry News: Toyota model scores higher than the Honda Accord

Wednesday, September 8th, 2010

It has been one heck of a year for Toyota, and the last several years have been a roller coaster of emotions for the automaker. It all started when Toyota launched the Prius, which garnered top honors as the most fuel efficient car on the market for years. Then, Schaumburg Camry dealers and Prius drivers were plagued with this huge recall only a few months ago. It was certainly a big setback for the Japanese manufacturer – one the Schaumburg Toyota Rav4 dealers explain they are still making a comeback from. However, the Prius is still the industry leading car in terms of fuel economy, Toyota is still pushing forward with new engine developments and new model launches, and the Japanese automaker hopes to emerge victorious after it emerges from the smoke.

One of the long-standing vehicles to represent innovation, dependability and affordability in the Toyota camp is the simple but highly functional Camry. This car has been on the market forever and has always garnered high marks from Schaumburg Camry drivers for its general affordability. Like its close sibling the Toyota Corolla, the Camry is known for having a low total cost of ownership and a high resale value, both of which are crucial factors in evaluating a vehicle’s overall dependability. Even Schaumburg Toyota Rav4 drivers are envious of Camry drivers, although the functionality you gain by purchasing the Rav4 is comparable depending on what you need your car for.

Regardless, if you were to compare the Camry to its nearest competitor (the Honda Accord), you would be able to tell exactly why the Camry gets a better wrap from Schaumburg Camry drivers. The Camry offers better utility in terms of trunk space, for one. The Camry also barely ekes out the win in terms of performance, with comparable numbers to the Accord but better overall engine power. And progress is a big issue when it comes to innovation, so the Camry’s more impressive numbers in terms of fuel economy and lower numbers in terms of emissions edge out the Accord yet again. Schaumburg Toyota Rav4 drivers are proud that their brand is making such huge strides in the small car market.

Safety is a huge issue when it comes to driving, and the Camry edges out the Accord in yet another crucial category. While the Accord gets some five-star ratings in terms of safety, the Camry gets the same distinction across the board, making it one of the safest rides available anywhere. You will only find that kind of safety when you deal with Toyota, the reigning champ of both safety and fuel economy. On top of all this, the Camry comes down with a five-year ownership cost that is more than a grand and a half lower than the Accord. More inexpensive and more dependable, it looks like the Camry gets the nod across the board in comparison to the Accord. Sorry Honda, but you will have to try harder next time to beat the best automaker in the world.

Long Island Camry Hybrid Part Of Toyota’s Impressive Fuel Efficient Lineup

Monday, September 6th, 2010

Consumer Reports said it and consumers apparently believe it as they continue to flock to their Long Island Camry hybrid dealer for Toyota models which were rated among the most efficient. Toyota can lay claim to six of the top 15 fuel-efficient models.
Although Long Island Toyota RAV4 customers won’t find their model on the list since only cars were included, there are so many other Toyota models on the list that those loyal to the brand won’t be at a loss if their main criterion for the next purchase is great mileage.
Coming in first with nearly unbelievable mileage numbers of 55 highway and 43 city was Toyota Prius IV, one the biggest Toyota successes in years. The Prius model is being expanded into an entire family of cars, including the plug-in hybrid set to debut later this year and a model with solar roof panels. Prius owners are a breed unto themselves and not only are loyal, but eagerly anticipate the greener models to come.
Long Island Camry hybrid customers will be pleased to know their model rated sixth in overall fuel efficiency with 28 mpg city and 41 mpg highway. Other Toyota brand vehicles appearing in this prestigious list include: Scion xD in ninth place; Yaris base sedan in 13th place; Corolla LE in 14th place; and Corolla (base, manual) rounding out the list in 15th place.
Test criteria for the Consumer Reports include measurements of fuel economy, which come from using a precision flow meter and are rounded to the nearest mile per gallon. Overall mileage for each vehicle is calculated from equal portions of city and expressway driving on a 150-mile trip. Consumer Reports issues these reports annually after conducting extensive tests.
Okay, for you Long Island Toyota RAV4 owners, Consumer Reports also compiles a list of most fuel-efficient SUVs and Toyota Highlander hybrid rated fourth on that list with an overall mpg rating of 24. In fifth place, Toyota RAV4 (base, 4 cyl.) had a 23 overall rating. Toyota RAV4 Limited (V6) placed 11th with an overall mpg of 22. Does this mean the gas hog SUV is a thing of the past?
With all the new hybrids and innovative fuel-saving ideas being produced by Toyota and planned for production in the near future, imagine where the Toyota models may rate in the next fuel-efficiency test. The plug-in Prius will certainly figure into the equation, and who knows how the solar-powered model might measure up.
Despite the recall nightmare that Toyota is embroiled in, not only does customer loyalty seem to have been retained, but the fuel-efficiency of many models and the new hybrids waiting in the wings may just be the boost Toyota needs to stay on top and bring in new buyers.
In today’s economy, when car buyers are looking for a bargain at the register as well as on the road, Toyota has stepped up to the plate and offered consumers what they asked for: clean, green and not-too-mean on the wallet.

Report: Toyota subpoenas Camry in Lee acquittal case

Wednesday, August 25th, 2010

Koua Fong Lee

Koua Fong Lee can’t seem to catch a break. Lee was convicted of killing three people in 2006 when his Toyota Camry struck a vehicle at a stoplight, but he was later freed after prosecutors discovered that Lee may have been a victim of unintended acceleration. He served two and a half years in prison while the justice system ground along, and now Toyota has subpoenaed his 1996 Camry. The manufacturer wants Lee to turn the car over for an examination on the quick. Unfortunately, Lee no longer has the car. It’s been locked up in the custody of the St. Paul Police Department since the 2006 accident.

With Lee’s name clear, a total of four federal lawsuits have been filed against Toyota by the family members of those killed in the accident. Each claims that Toyota knew of the unintended acceleration issue well before the Lee accident and failed to follow up on those reports in any substantial way. Meanwhile, Toyota claims that the accident wasn’t due to unintended acceleration. You can see the conundrum here. If Toyota proves that the accident wasn’t the result of unintended acceleration, then it may be the case that Lee was at fault.

Lee’s lawyer has expressed obvious concern over allowing Toyota to examine the vehicle unsupervised. So for now, it remains in St. Paul PD custody.

My first Car, What car?

Wednesday, August 25th, 2010

I have currently 8000 Dollars saved up from when I started saving about the age of 10. This money means alot for me because it took me 6 years of saving.

I’ve been debating about the car i should buy since my 16th birthday will be coming on the ninth.

The Car I want is catoragized in three sections.
1(dependable,good gas milage, pratical) example a accord or camry.
2(sleek,fast) Mustang, 3000gt vr4
3(Something cool, like a truck, 2000 f-150 with lift kit.)

Dependablility, saftly, gas milage, insurance are key factors in my decision.

I was somewhat considering in getting an old 66 mustang with a 289 in it, because its sleek, classic. 8k won’t get me much but i can work on it.

What car would you get if you had about 8-14 thousand dollars to spend?

Your opinion will be truthfully interpreted and I would appreciate any positive comment.

Toyota responds to concerned owners with ‘Why is my car doing this?’

2010 Toyota Camry – Click above for high-res image gallery

If you didn’t think that Toyota has been getting a lot of ‘unintended acceleration‘ questions from concerned customers, this might change your mind. The Japanese automaker has posted a short release on the company’s media website called “Why is my car doing this?” that explains how technology in cars today can “cause engine rpm to increase slightly without warning.” The informative little missive explains how cold start idle-up, transmission shift, catalytic converter protection, air conditioning idle-up and power steering idle up can raise the pulse of your engine.

We were hoping that the rest of the world already knew that, for example, jamming the A/C when it is hot will cause the engine to rev a bit higher, or that starting your vehicle when it’s cold outside will cause the engine to race for a few minutes. Guess not. Our favorite example is for protection of the catalytic converter. Toyota tells us that, on manual transmission models, the engine control computer will “keep the engine rpm above idle as the driver shifts between fifth and sixth gear at high speeds” to prolong the life of the emissions component.

While the list of reasons your engine may idle may sound incredibly obvious, it suggests that some customers are a bit skittish every time they turn on their Toyota, and that can’t be good. Hit the jump to read for yourself.

Report: Toyota considering RWD hatch to commemorate Naruse

Wednesday, August 11th, 2010

Filed under:

We see plenty of rumors crop up on the interwebs, but we’ve rarely wanted any of them to come true as badly as this particular juicy morsel. The crew at Autocar reports that Toyota wants to build a new model to honor its former chief test driver, Hiromu Naruse. Naruse recently passed away in an a collision while testing the Lexus LFA at the Nürburgring. If the whispers are true, the car won’t be a badge-job for the Camry. According to reports, Naruse always wanted to see Toyota produce an inexpensive, rear-wheel drive coupe that was affordable enough for the little guys of the world to be able to hop into the driver’s seat.

If you’re thinking there’s no way that Toyota will suddenly jump into the small rear-wheel drive market with not one, but two new products, think again. Autocar reports that the inexpensive two-door will slot below the sexy FT-86 and will be based off of the GRMN Aigo Hot Hatch Concept we saw at this year’s Tokyo Auto Salon. That particular concept got its grunt from a Daihatsu 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine. More importantly, it rocked a double-wishbone rear suspension and swapped its front-wheel drive layout for a rear-driven arrangement. If the rumors are to be believed, we could see the car in 2012, just slightly ahead of the FT-86.
